Job Summary

This is a position within the context of clinical research for individuals participating in clinical trials. The Patient Care Technician advocates for clients, ensuring that their psychosocial needs are addressed, and participates in clinical trials to assist with client retention in research. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the current psychosocial needs of research participants and identify their case management needs.

  • When necessary, help clients with discharge planning.

  • Establish important objectives to be achieved with the research participants during their inpatient stay by collaborating with each client to determine and rank their needs and providing assistance when necessary.

  • Assist with completing Discharge Summaries for clients discharging from the Clinical Research Inpatient Unit. Ensuring that all information, medications, and follow-up appointments are accurate, and informing treatment providers, caregivers, family members, and referral sources of discharge.

  • Assist with arranging for discharge transportation, off-unit appointments (such as visits to the SSI office or housing interviews), doctor's appointments, and ensuring that all calendars are updated with the relevant information.

  • While on the unit, helping clients with various other needs (such as paying bills, rent, and checking in with probation officers, purchasing items to maintain ADLs, obtaining clothes from shelters, etc.)

  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.  

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate effective writing and speaking skills.

  • Phlebotomy experience (Required)

  • Ability to exhibit strong teamwork and decision-making abilities.

  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict and cope with crisis situations.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism with clients and staff.

  • Ability to multitask, have meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to demonstrate knowledge and skill in techniques of good clinical judgment, be a team player, and be willing to work a flexible schedule. 

Work Conditions

  • Mostly an indoor Clinic environment.

  • Walking, standing, typing, and sitting are all necessary physical activities.

  • Occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds while in a lightly active position.

  • Reporting to work, as scheduled, is extremely essential
